Coastal climate and relaxed temperament of local people are just the ambience for cycling. On your ride, you will find out the methods of local salt production, how it was made back in the days and in is still produced in present times. We will observe a former railway connection between Trieste and Poreč, experience how Slovenian coast is modernised in a sustainable way, and so much more. We will indulge in a nice cup of coffee, fresh juice or an ice cream on one of the most charming squares you have ever been to … we will visit Piran.
That’s the beauty of cycling: one gets to ride around all the places that no car can reach. And that, our dear cyclists, is exactly what we will do. We’ll start at the salt pans of Strunjan, go directly through them and into the route of Trieste-Poreč railway. In no time we will be in the heart of fun and modernity, characteristic for Slovenia’s tiny coast. Potorož is a renowned holiday resort and a favourite to Italian guests, who know how to appreciate good food and excitement of casinos. But, just around the corner there is the complete opposite. Unspoilt nature and clean ambience, perfect for local fishermen and ourselves. Near the border with Crotatia, we will find enormous salterns, where today, just like throughout the history, salt is produced in a traditional way. A path throug the horizons of salt fields and gathering knowledge on salt production will leads on our way back to Portorož. We will let the road take us to one of the oldest and most precious Slovenian towns. Piran, a jewel of serenity. A break at the main square, known for its cafés, where locals gather for a morning coffee on their way to a marketplace or simply relax after a long day, will do us well and we will be ready to ride a few more kilometers more around the coast, under the cliffs, among the salterns, past the small fishing boats and to our starting point. A memorable day that will make you want to stay there forever.
